A terrible weekend of sport

What a glorious long weekend it has been... beautiful weather... an extra day to relax...

WRONG!!! It has been an absolutely shocking long weekend for two reasons:

Friday Night
New Zealand v Australia (Rugby League)
After missing a historic match last weekend, which has the first time the Kiwis hav beat the Kangaroos at home for over 50 years, I was already kicking myself. However I couldn't pass up the chance to watch the NZ home game on TV, which has also the Kiwis opportunity to beat the Kangaroos back-to-back for the first time in over 50 years as well. I have never screamed at the TV so much (well not since a Rugby World Cup semi match that no one shall talk about ever again). The game was full of missed calls on both sides by the ref, and after having the lead for most of the match, the Kiwis losing by 2 points! Just 2 points! ARGH! And to have the final play of the match by the Kiwis a pissy little grubber kick right into the hands of the Aussies... ARGH! Well I guess there is always another chance in the next 50 years :S

Saturday Night
Otago v Auckland (NPC (domestic rugby competition) Final)
Now I am a Waikato supporter through and through, but after my team finishing well out of the top spots this year, I didnt think I was in the mood to watch NPC finals rugby. But Otago changed that all for me when I watch them dominate defending champions Canterbury in the semis, in a game where I was again screaming at the TV, and the first time I have been so excited about a non-Waikato NPC match. And to top it off, facing Auckland in the finals, a team I will still never forget for beating Waikato at home in the 2002 NPC final, I was wishing that Otago would dish out some of their own medicine. After a close first half however, it was clear that was never going to happen when Auckland ran in 4 tries in the second half. ARGH!

So Sunday became a day of mourning. After the disappointment of last weekend, my only comfort is knowing that an All Blacks tour is about to start again, so watch out England, Scotland, Wales & Ireland!
